Read Across America

March 3-7 was Read Across America Week. This special week was a blast at Lincoln School and it kicked off the Friday before with a Read-A-Thon assembly with masked readers. This high energy assembly was truly fun with students trying to guess who the costumed readers were. Read Across America Week consisted of many activities, including DEAR time, guest speakers, a principal bedtime story, 5th and 6th graders reading to younger ones, assemblies, theme days, and a bookmark contest. Our bookmark contest winners included Vania, Shaila, Maya, Connor, Aleayah, and Emily. One assembly was on anti-bullying and another was from the author of The Way We Read. Author Aya Shabarek in this assembly also showed students what braille was. One of our new initiatives this year was "One School, One Book." It consisted of mystery teachers reading a book across two days. We hope this enthusiastic week helps bring about the love of reading. A huge thanks to our PTA and staff supporting the week's events.
