Martin Luther King Jr. Day is the third Monday of each January. On January 19 students have school off for this national holiday. This day marks our beginning of students learning about Black History Month, which is February. Mrs. Bush's class watched a Scholastic News video on Martin Luther King Jr., did an activity online, and made peace plates in honor of his message of peace and kindness. Dr. King was a chief spokesperson for nonviolent activism in the Civil Rights Movement. January's SEL theme of the month at Lincoln School is perseverance. Dr. King once said: “If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” This message certainly resembles perseverance.
