Masked Reader

March has been filled with reading at Lincoln School. It kicked off with Read Across America Week, which included many activities. There were theme days, such as the Monday Workout for Reading: Olympics Gear Day and Thursday Cozy Up With a Good Book Pajama Day. Each day included suggested classroom activities. One of the favorites included flashlight reading, where classes turned off the lights and students read with their flashlights. Additional school activities included a bookmark contest, Drop Everything and Read, guest readers, and a bedtime story video by Dr. Ferraro. Several 6th graders went into classrooms to act as a peer reader. County Commissioner Rafael Marte came in to read to 3rd grade and even Dr. Ferraro read to Pre-K 4. The bookmark contest had a special twist where students had to include a theme of Lincoln School. The winners included Aubrey Simpson, Johansel Ramos Morales, Theo Almonte, Dylan Rodriguez, Hudson Mitchell, Maya Ordonez, and Bella Aguilar. The month coincided with our PTA Read-A-Thon, encouraging reading for prizes and fundraising. The highlight of this read-a-thon included a masked reader assembly, where students had to guess which teacher was reading in a blow up costume! Homerooms had their own team name related to reading that they were able to showcase at the assembly. Happy reading everyone!
